Trailer Review: The Great Indian Family- Once Again a Film Revolving Around Religion

‘The Great Indian Family’ team just dropped the trailer of the movie, and what we can make out from the 1 minute 55 second trailer is that this movie is surely going to be a rib-tickling one, revolving around the idea of religious tolerance and secularism, which is a good thing but how different will this movie be from the already released ones is something we’re waiting to see. Meanwhile, we can also expect that it also gives the audience a different perspective to understand a sensitive topic like religion without having people to dislike it or worse, boycott it.

The trailer starts with Bhajan Kumar (Vickey Kaushal), who’s from a Pandit family, being happy in his life. He’s someone who organises Bhajans, keertans, Poojas and so on. He also has a big loving family, but the only little thing that bothers him is that he doesn’t get to enjoy his youth years like others. Then his story takes a turn when Manushi Chillar enters his life. Her character in the film, as we can make out for now is of a typical high class girl falling in love with Bhajan Kumar, who’s from a middle class family.

The main twist comes when Bhajan’s family receives a letter which says that the person born on 7 December in the family is a Muslim, and it looks like Bhajan’s the only one who’s birthday falls on that date, which makes him a Muslim in the family of strict Hindus. Then, of course people around him including his own family start to dislike him, throw him out of the house and in one scene we can also see 3 muslim men coming to beat Bhajan. It’s all a mystery as of now of what really is going to happen and how the makers are going to give it a justified ending.

Talking about the cast of the film, it includes Vickey in the main role with all the camera’s attention, Manushi being a glam factor as we don’t get to see her much in the trailer and Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Yashpal Sharma, Sadiya Siddiqui, Alka Amin, Srishti Dixit, Bhuvan Arora, Aasif Khan, Ashutosh Ujjwal and Bharti Perwani in pivot roles. This comedy packed film is produced by Yash Raj Films, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and is set to hit the big screen on 22 September 2023.
