Shabana Azmi hosts the Tiranga at the IFFM

At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in 2023, legendary actress Shabana Azmi hosted the Tri-Color in celebration of Indian Independence Day.

With the tri-color symbolising India’s rich heritage, Shabana Azmi, a shining example of dramatic excellence and cultural relevance, enlivened the Australian landscape. The renowned actress served as the hostess for the flag-raising ceremony at the prestigious The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023.

In addition to leaving her mark on the history of Indian film, Shabana Azmi, a highly esteemed artist, has also crossed international boundaries to win the hearts of viewers in many parts of the world.

R. Balki’s eagerly awaited film Ghoomer, which had its world premiere at the festival, also includes Shabana Azmi who dazzles with her performance. The shared feelings of patriotism and unity among participants reverberated as the tricolor flapped against the Melbourne skyline.

Shabana Azmi on the occasion, said, “To be having this honor to hoist the Indian flag, the flag that I’m so proud of, the flag that all of us gathered here are proud of in Melbourne is an honor I never dreamed I could have. Reiterating that we are here to celebrate Indian cinema in Melbourne, I would want to say that I firmly think that art transcends all barriers and that films can be a tool for social change.”

The festival began on August 11 and will end on August 20, and it will serve as an important venue for presenting the vitality and diversity of Indian film on a worldwide scale.
