Interview: “If you’re an outsider, no one’s going to take you seriously because…”, Danish Pandor

Hi I’m Mishti Ohri from FilmyTree. Today I have with me Danish Pandor who started his career as a model in 2007 and ended up in acting in 2010.

Q1. Was it tough to shoot your latest horror movie – 1920 Horrors of the heart?

Ans. Yes, it was tough because horror is a difficult genre to shoot. So while shooting it we really had a fun time as Vikram Bhatt excels in horror movies because he has been making it for a long time. But as an actor it was my first time and the experience was altogether different from what I did in the past.

Q2. Shooting horror scenes is quite a more difficult task than shooting light scenes. And there are of course retakes and scenes done many times to get the perfect shot, so you as an actor how did you manage to give that level of performance after 5 or 6 takes?

Ans. It used to be very difficult because you have to do it constantly and when it comes to cinema where there are so many shots and you have to do things repetitively, yes, it is difficult but as an actor you get used to it. But there’s one blessing in disguise in it too. The thing is that after every take you feel like I can add this to the character. So as an actor you get a lot of opportunities as well to redo the scenes or improvise them in a better way.

Q3. While shooting 1920, what was the best or a lesson that you’ll always remember?

Ans. This movie of Vikram Bhatt, he made it on unreal inventions, he was the first one to implement that in India. So shooting it was like on big LED screens and things are happening on the screen and right where you are standing, you have to imagine the entire scene. So, this was the lesson I learnt as I’d never experienced it before.

Q4. What acting genre do you think you fit the most?

Ans. If you ask me to be really honest, I love drama and I love romantic genre. Movie like Notebook, La La Land, Pretty Girl and a lot of Hindi movies too like Dil to Pagal hai, Kuch kuch hota hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and so on, I have always felt like working in these kinds of films. I don’t like thriller, murder and all that. I like romantic movies with a little drama and all that.

Q5. So, this was about your professional life, now tell us how you ended up in acting when you started modeling in 2007?

Ans. So apparently, for many years, I did a lot of fashion weeks and shoots, but after some point, it became monotonous. And I’ve always had the knack of observing people a lot and see how to act. So what happened was while I was working as a model, I was also taking theatre classes. I attended workshops of very known personalities and it was then that I thought I can try my hand in acting. So that’s how the journey started in 2010. It’s been 13 years and it’s been really tough because when you’re an outsider, no one’s going to take you seriously because people don’t know who you are and that’s very tough to prove yourself again and again. But doing that every day, this perseverance, it gets you somewhere.

Q6. Tell us something about your upcoming projects?

Ans. So Mishti, in a couple of months, I’ve got 3 releases- one is with BBC Studios that is 36 Days, that’s a murder mystery, directed by Vishal Furia, he’s a very good director. And the other one is directed by Ajay Bhuyan, it is by Jio Studios, that is Moon Walk. I’ve worked with Ajay Bhuyan earlier.
