Chris Peluso, a Performer In ‘Mamma Mia!’ Dies Of Schizoaffective Disease

Chris Peluso, who appeared in several musicals, including the revival of ‘Show Boat’, ‘The Woman in White,’ and ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,’ has passed away at the age of 40. A year after taking a break from acting to pursue treatment for schizoaffective illness, Peluso passed away, his family reportedly told Playbill on August 15.

Peluso’s battle with schizoaffective illness was chronicled through a GoFundMe effort that was started in September. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Gomes, whom he married in 2018, and two children. Due to the mental health issue that affected his recent performances, the campaign intended to gather money for his treatment. Without health insurance, Peluso sought therapy at a Tennessee inpatient mental health rehab facility.

The University of Michigan, Peluso’s alma mater, posted a tribute to him on the Instagram account of their musical theater department, expressing their grief and sending their sympathies to his family.
