The opening film of the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will be R Balki’s ‘Ghoomer’, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher.

The 14th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), the biggest Indian film festival outside of India and the proud winner of multiple accolades, has been long anticipated. The festival, which will run from August 11 to August 20, 2023, aims to enthrall spectators with a memorable opening night that creates the setting for an exceptional cinematic experience.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is thrilled to showcase ‘Ghoomer’, the much-anticipated film by R Balki, as the festival opener. The festival is preparing for one of its most outstanding opening nights to date. In the film ‘Ghoomer’, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, Angad Bedi, and Shabana Azmi, Saiyami Kher plays a paraplegic athlete who flourishes as a cricketer under the direction of her coach, played by Abhishek Bachchan. One of the most effective storytellers in Indian cinema, R Balki is known for his emotionally charged storylines.

The opening night of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, which will take place on August 12, 2023, is expected to be a remarkable occasion attended by the film’s renowned cast and creators as a result of the festival’s growing international recognition. The picture I worked on was the most emotionally and physically taxing It seems very meaningful that Ghoomer will be seen by viewers for the first time at IFFM. Coming to the homeland of the great Shayne Warne to screen our film couldn’t have been better”.
