For “OMG2,” Akshay Kumar Didn’t Charge Any Money.

The follow-up of Akshay Kumar’s 2012 film “oh my god”, OMG 2 had a sluggish opening weekend but is currently on track to gross over Rs 100 crore in India. However, other rumors claim that the movie’s budget was just Rs. 150 crore, making it a financial failure.

Ajith Andhare, the producer and COO of Viacom 18, has now put a stop to all the speculations and said that the budget for the movie has been significantly overstated. He also claimed that Akshay Kumar worked for free in the film. “The budgetary reports for OMG2 are grossly exaggerated. On the contrary, Akshay did not ask for fee and, in fact, marched alongside us in both the financial and creative risks associated with such a brave picture.”

“We share a long history and understanding with him as a Studio dating back to ‘OMG1’, ‘Special 26’, and ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and I have been absolutely in lockstep with him in picking up screenplays that are unusual but speak for something broader & significant,” he stated. “Without him, it would have been impossible to take this risk because of his whole financial and creative commitment.”

In relation to the movie’s budget, a source close to Pinkvilla revealed that it was less than 50 crores. ‘OMG 2’ was shot in a controlled setting, similar to the majority of social dramedies produced in the Hindi film industry”. “A bit less than Rs 50 crore was spent on production. For those who are unaware, even ‘OMG (2012)’ was produced on a budget of Rs 25 crore only.”
