Anupama Chopra’s Film Companion unveiled its first-ever ‘Best Indian Films Forever’ (BIFF) List, honoring the ten finest Indian films of all time, reflecting our love for Indian cinema and its influence on our lives in the most lovable way. The BIFF List was compiled using input from over 150 film enthusiasts, including directors, actors, technicians, writers, critics, and more, and it was derived from a collection of national and local films.

The legendary action-adventure movie ‘Sholay’ by Ramesh Sippy, which has been in theatres for 48 years, is at the top of the list. The film ‘Sholay,’ which starred stalwarts like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, and Mac Mohan, continues to be adored by viewers and is indelibly carved in the annals of Indian cinema.
The well-known director Ramesh Sippy expressed his appreciation to Cinema Lovers, saying, “I don’t know how to say thank you to the entire film industry, all areas of the film industry that voted for this list. Being listed among the Top Ten is a great honor for me. From the biggest to the smallest person involved with ‘Sholay,’ I want to thank you all. Everyone participated. It couldn’t have happened without any of them. Making ‘Sholay’ was a blast. Although it was quite labor-intensive, I enjoyed it, and I sincerely hope that all of you did as well since it is in the Top Ten. Many thanks.”
Meanwhile, Film Companion has started accepting votes for the People’s Edition of #BIFFList2023, encouraging viewers to select their favorite films.
