‘Haddi’, a long-awaited crime drama with a focus on revenge, is now available online. The film, directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is now playing on Zee5.
As the transgender character Haddi and Harika, Nawazuddin Siddiqui displays his wide range as an actor. To escalate the plot, Anurag Kashyap portrays a powerful gangster-turned-politician whose lackeys operate a suspicious chemical factory and some pretend to be trans women to exploit rich clients. To its credit, the film explores the ways in which their hatred for the trans community manifests despite using their identity for their benefit.
The movie has a somewhat rigid rhythm. Haddi’s time in Noida with Ahlawat’s crew seemed rushed and at times purposefully hazy. In spite of the fact that it’s meant to add depth to the character’s ‘mission’, all the duplicity is quite standard. There are several clips that appear to be forced attempts to fit the music and streamline Haddi’s journey.
The soundtrack of the movie, especially the lyrical ‘Beparda,’ is powerful and evocative. Additionally, the thoughtfully composed background score pairs each scenario with the appropriate music.
