Lyricist Javed Akhtar to Appear in court in Case Related to Kangana

Famous lyricist Javed Akhtar has been ordered to appear in court on August 5 in connection with the complaint Kangana Ranaut has made against him.

Javed Akhtar was called upon before a Mumbai court on July 24 about a counter-complaint Kangana Ranaut had made against him for alleged “extortion and criminal intimidation” under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insult to a woman’s modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.

A magistrate court’s comprehensive notice order stated that there were enough reasons to move through with charges against him, including criminal intimidation. On the allegations of extortion, the court stated that there is no case.

Kangana Ranaut, the star of Manikarnika, claimed in her complaint against Javed Akhtar that he invited her and her sister to his home in Juhu in March 2016 when she was involved in a personal conflict with a fellow actor. Although Akhtar did not play a role in the conflict, the lawsuit claimed that he called them and “criminally harassed and threatened” them into giving the co-actor a written apology to support him, although he had no legal justification to do so. Along with making inappropriate and uncalled-for comments on her moral character, Akhtar was also accused of extortion, according to the complaint.

This legal dispute began in 2021 when Kangana stated that Javed Akhtar had forced her to retract her apology to Hrithik Roshan in an interview, which prompted him to file a defamation suit against her. At the time, Hrithik and Kangana were caught up in a controversy involving alleged emails and an affair. On her part, Kangana filed an intimidation and insult complaint against Javed Akhtar.
