Actress Sonam Kapoor discussed being abused when she was 13 years old while out with her friends. Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, and Radhika Apte were present with her when she spoke at Rajeev Masand’s The Actresses Roundtable.
Sonam talked about being touched by a man as a youngster while discussing the kind of molestation women experience on a daily basis. “Everyone encounters some form of sexual abuse when they are young. I am aware that when I was younger, I was assaulted, and it traumatised me. For two or three years, I kept quiet about it. I still clearly recall the episode, she remarked.
The incident happened at Mumbai’s Gaiety Galaxy Theatre as the gang left to fetch some munchies. “There was a man who just walked up behind me and gripped my breasts like that. Obviously, I didn’t have breasts at the time. Unaware of what was happening, I began to tremble and shake, and I immediately began to cry. I kept my mouth shut about it. For the duration of time, I felt like I had done something wrong, so I simply remained there and watched the movie, she said.
