‘Chhorii,’ a supernatural thriller by Abundantia Entertainment, was released in November 2021 and received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. So much so that the filmmakers wasted no time in announcing a sequel, with Nushrratt Bharuccha reprising his role as ‘Sakshi.’ Nushrratt plays the title part in the film, which is centred on the tribulations of a pregnant couple moving into a new house that is haunted by a paranormal presence. We can safely argue that she delivered a ground-breaking performance in this part, based on the audience and reception to the first film, which explains why the director was hell-bent on casting just her as the leading lady in the official sequel.
“Nushrratt Bharuchha is one of our industry’s most underappreciated actors,” he says. Her ability can be seen in films like ‘Chhorii’ and ‘Ajeeb Daastaans.’ One of the many reasons I approached her for the spooky thriller last year was because of her extreme adaptability. I had complete faith in her ability to perform admirably in this job, and she did just that. I couldn’t image continuing the story with any other performer when I first had the notion. Nushrratt had engraved the character of ‘Sakshi’ on my mind, and only she could have brought her story to the big screen. I’m very looking forward to working with the team again to provide the world an even more exciting and thrilling chapter of Sakshi’s life.”
