Interview: “A lot of Planning Plotting in Reality Shows” says Actress Afreen Rahat

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey in the industry?

A. It has been a very great journey till now. I started in 2018 and I made my debut with MTV. When I went there for audition, it was so crowded and I asked myself, ‘do I want to do it or not’. They gave me a situation over there, which I did. My mom was there and the other contestants told her that they knew I would be selected. The next day I got a call from MTV that I’ve been selected for the show. It was difficult for me before, because I had always lived in this protective surrounding in my family. And when you go there, they take away your phones, lock you up in a house and you just have to be there. Moreover, in a reality show you have no connection with the outside world. So, it was a totally different experience. I still remember I used to cry, have breakdowns and sometimes I would be like, ‘Ok I just want to go home. I can’t do it.’
But then I was the best performer there and there was this one task which no one was able to do. The production thought they would have to remove it, and I was the only one who could complete it. It was a mud pond with stones and everything. They had tied ropes on us and there was this girl who was holding me with the belt, she literally sat on my shoulders to stop me. I carried her out and completed the task. Then I saw everyone was hooting my name and I was like; this is the thing I want in my life.

Q. Any anecdotes you want to share from the shoot of the reality show?

A. This was one such incident I would never forget. It was fun. Although there are obviously many more stories but I guess I’ll go by this one.

Q. What was your take on reality shows before debuting and what was it after? Did it change?&

A. That was a reality check for me as I used to watch it as audience. But when I went there, I actually saw the people I used to see on the TV. When as audience you watch the show, they’re just showing you this 45-minute clip and you feel it’s easy, but when I got to experience it on my own, it was completely different as it was totally hard work for a month or a month and a half. You live there with strangers, what they all are doing is planning and plotting to get you out because everyone is looking for themselves. Like I can call someone my friend but obviously at the time of vote out, I’ll kick them out for my own survival. So, it confuses you a lot and sometimes disturbs you mentally. And some people even go for therapy after the show.

Q. So now, tell us something about your movie.
Q. Now we want to know about your upcoming projects.
