According to a production insider, the Sanjay Dutt mania peaked in the 1990s, when the series was set, and many people began adapting it. The crew debated whether there was a better approach to depict the 1990s than that appearance. This notion was proposed by Gulshan, who was also eager to sport that appearance. He gave it a very natural appearance.
The comic crime thriller Guns and Gulaabs was written and directed by Raj and DK. It is based on the violent and criminal 1990s. Leading actors include TJ Bhanu, Adarsh Gourav, Dulquer Salmaan, and Rajkummar Rao.
