The recent release of “Fighter” last week has left trade analyst Taran Adarsh puzzled, describing its performance as a “paradox.” Featuring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone as air force officers, the film has experienced a notable drop in domestic box office numbers, termed by Adarsh as “a complete shocker.” Intriguingly, despite the downturn in India, “Fighter” is enjoying considerable success overseas, especially in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where it continues to post robust weekday figures following an “excellent weekend” of business. Adarsh, in his analysis of the film’s numbers, raised the question of how to reconcile this apparent contradiction.
According to Sacnilk’s report, the domestic box office earnings for “Fighter” reached ₹134 crore after six days in theaters. However, the daily collections this week depict a different story, with a significant decline to single digits – ₹8 crore on Monday and ₹7.5 crore on the subsequent day – compared to the ₹29 crore total on Sunday.
Expressing surprise at the situation, Adarsh remarked, “Fighter shocks India, rocks overseas.” The film’s underperformance has sent shockwaves through the industry, despite seemingly positive elements such as star power, the director’s credentials, critical acclaim, and positive audience feedback. The unexpected decline in numbers within India is particularly concerning, marking a setback at the beginning of the year.
